HAIR LOSSES

Medically speaking, for an adult, about 40 to 80 hair falling a day is considered within a normal range. It simply means that one may not consider getting treated for it if this is the case. However, it is also important that if one observes sudden increase of hair falling even within the normal range, it calls for medical attention and evaluation. Again, if one has hair falling within normal range but if they fall from the roots amounting to a definite reduction in the quantum of the total hair on the scalp, it calls for appropriate treatment. In any case, consistent hair falling over 80 a day and/or reduced hair quantum needs to be evaluated for treatment.
Localized hair falling, leading to even a tiny hairless spot (alopecia) should always be studied and treated. In homeopathy, eczema has been considered, understood and treated as an external manifestation of an internal disorder. In other words, eczema is a result of an allergic reaction. Eczema is more of an end result and not a disease by itself. The immunological reaction shows up as skin eruption of a specific type, which may diagnosed as eczema based on its features.

Greasy Hair
Caused by over activity of the sebaceous glands, which produce a waxy substance called sebum to keep hair supple and waterproof; often associated with other skin problems, and in youngsters either with Acne or the general hormonal upheaval of adolescence. Can be aggravated by over-frequent washing with strong shampoos which destroy acid balance of scalp. Constitutional treatment is recommended if the specific remedies and self-help measures below do not improve matters.

Nail Problems
Disorders specifically affecting the nails are few; more often, discolouration or deformity is the result of injury, or of nutritional, respiratory, or heart disorders.
Deformed nails have a variety of causes, including iron deficiency (nails become spoon-shaped), respiratory or heart problems .Psoriasis (nails become pitted), injury and infection (nails develop horizontal ridges), or simply old age (nails develop vertical ridges, possibly due to malabsorption of Vitamins A, B complex and C, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and essential fatty acids).
Self-help Preventive measures include keeping nails short, wearing gloves for gardening and rubber gloves if hands are repeatedly immersed in water, trimming toenails straight across to prevent them ingrowing, and wearing shoes which do not press on toenails.
Discoloured nails can be telltales of a variety of conditions, including Anaemia (nails very pale), liver problems (nails whitish) bacterial endocarditis (nails have dark flecks in them which look like splinters), and fungi infections (nails turn whitish and soft or crumbly); nails also turn purplish or black when hit (see sub-ungual haematoma below) or put under gentle but constant pressure for any length of time. White spots on nails are often a sign of zinc or Vitamin A deficiency.
Fungal infections turn the nails white and crumbly, causing ridging and thickening afterwards. Orthodox medicine prescribes antifungal drugs or ointments. However, the homeopathic remedies in Self Help section should be tried first.
